How Much Space Will I See?

Storage is usually labelled in decimal units, but a device can report the same capacity in binary units (GiB), which makes the number look smaller. Find your label below to see the GiB figure the same number of bytes gives.

This is SpecCairn's own arithmetic from the unit definitions below, the same kind of conversion the linked guides show. Nothing here was measured on a device, and it is not a prediction of free space.

The unit definitions

Common labels in GiB

Bytes divided by 1,073,741,824, rounded to two decimals.

  • 32 GB = 32,000,000,000 bytes, about 29.80 GiB
  • 64 GB = 64,000,000,000 bytes, about 59.60 GiB
  • 128 GB = 128,000,000,000 bytes, about 119.21 GiB
  • 256 GB = 256,000,000,000 bytes, about 238.42 GiB
  • 512 GB = 512,000,000,000 bytes, about 476.84 GiB
  • 1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, about 931.32 GiB
  • 2 TB = 2,000,000,000,000 bytes, about 1,862.65 GiB
  • 4 TB = 4,000,000,000,000 bytes, about 3,725.29 GiB

What this does not cover

Not covered: how much of that space you can use. These are raw unit conversions before formatting, partitions or system reservations, not a prediction of free space, and they do not say how a particular phone, tablet, computer or drive reports its capacity. Check the storage screen of your own device.

About this tool

The list has no script and stores nothing; it works the same in any browser. The unit definitions restate statements already made in the linked guides, with the same limits. See the methodology.
