Short answer: If your Xiaomi tablet has Google Play, open it, tap your profile icon, then Manage apps & device, and tap Update all or Update next to an app.1 Google says updates bring the latest features and improve security and stability.2

How this guide was made: SpecCairn did not update apps on a particular Xiaomi tablet. The Google Play steps come from Google Play Help for Android in general. This guide does not give a verified GetApps walkthrough for tablets: the only Xiaomi GetApps FAQ cited is written for smartphones.

Update apps in Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.1
  2. Tap the profile icon at the top right.1
  3. Tap Manage apps & device.1
  4. Under Updates available, tap See details.1
  5. Tap Update next to an app, or Update all.1

Some updates ask for new permissions, and you may need to restart the tablet.3

Turn on automatic updates in Google Play

  1. Tap your profile picture, then Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps.4
  2. Choose an option, such as Update over Wi-Fi only, or Don’t auto-update apps.4
  3. For one app only, open its page from Manage apps & device > Manage, tap More and turn on Enable auto update.4

About GetApps (Xiaomi’s FAQ is written for phones)

  • Xiaomi’s FAQ, written for Xiaomi smartphones, describes GetApps as Xiaomi’s app store for downloading and updating apps.5
  • For phones, it lists auto-update settings under GetApps > Profile, then the settings icon at the top right: Auto update system apps and Auto update third party apps. Never is one of the choices.5
  • The same phone FAQ advises keeping GetApps and the device’s software up to date.5
  • No cited official source confirms GetApps or these steps on tablets, and the FAQ gives no manual update steps. If your tablet has GetApps, check its own menus.6

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
Apps don’t update automaticallyGoogle says a sign-in error on an account can stop automatic updates. Check the accounts on the tablet.3
An app updated with auto-update offGoogle may update an app to fix a critical security problem, whatever your settings.3
You see apps you don’t recognizeXiaomi’s phone FAQ suggests uninstalling apps you don’t recognize or that seem suspicious.5

Stay safe: update apps only through Google Play (or GetApps, if your tablet has it). Don’t install update files from APK websites.7

FAQ

Do I need to check both stores?

Only if your tablet has both. The cited sources describe each store separately and don’t say which store updates a given app, so if both are on your tablet, check both when an app seems out of date.6

Can I stop automatic updates?

Yes. Google Play has a Don’t auto-update apps option.4 Xiaomi’s phone FAQ shows Never as a GetApps auto-update choice.5
